Fin Initial Assembly

Tools of the trade (from left): Cleaveland Tools Main Squeeze rivet squeezer, Harbor Freight 1/4" pneumatic riveter and Tight Fit (blind) riveter.  Shown below and in between the tools are blind rivets (LP3-4, about 12,000 required), Van's wedges and Avery Tools Close Quarter Rivet Puller tool.

I haven't even used the wedges from Vans...the close quarter thingy tool is awesome and makes tight space blind riveting a breeze.

The actual first squeezed rivets - solids (universal or domed head)  into the upper and lower fin hinge brackets.

More solid rivets(countersunk) for the nutplates holding the spar caps to the back side of the fin spar.

The front side of the previous picture showing some blind rivets and the countersunk nutplate rivets.

More nutplate riveting that joins the fin's front spar with the base or root rib.

Blind riveting the lower spar caps to the fin spar.

Close up showing the close quarters rivet tool, successfully angling the gun away from the crowded corner to facilitate a flat driven blind rivet.

Finished product...

Blind riveting the ribs to the rear fin spar.

Blurry picture showing the exterior of the fin skin with countersunk nutplates...

...and the inside view of same.
